Navajo Churro Sheep

We have a small flock of Navajo Churro Sheep. The Navajo-Churro sheep breed has a rich history deeply intertwined with the Navajo people and their traditional way of life. The Churro sheep, believed to have originated in Spain, were brought to America by Spanish explorers in the 16th century.

These sheep quickly became integral to the Navajo due to their hardiness, adaptability to the harsh Southwestern climate, and the versatility of their wool. The breed played a crucial role in sustaining the Navajo people, providing wool for weaving and meat.

Despite their importance, the U.S government made many attempts to eradicate them which were devasting, yet unsuccessful.

They are a "critical" species on the Livestock Conservancy Website.
